North Mersey HIS contributing to improvements in renal healthcare with innovative data management system

LIVERPOOL, UK - (HealthTech Wire / News) - North Mersey HIS will be assisting project teams at The Countess of Chester, Alder Hey and Nobles (Isle of Man) hospital trusts with implementing cyberREN, the groundbreaking advanced medical record and clinical data management system from early 2012.

Story Highlights
  • North Mersey HIS will be helping implement a new medical record and clinical data management system across three hospital trusts
  • The system, cyberREN, has been developed for the treatment of kidney conditions and ensures real-time collection and improved flow of patient information from the point of care
  • cyberREN has advanced custom report generating capabilities and provides detailed analysis of renal data

cyberREN, which has been developed specifically for the treatment of kidney conditions, ensures the real-time collection and improved flow of patient information from the point care is delivered.

North Mersey Health Informatics Services is currently working to implement cyberREN at The Sir Peter Medawar Transplant Unit at The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.  This will enable the sharing of information relating to transplant patients between the Unit and referring units across Cheshire and Merseyside, North Wales and the Isle of Man.

Jo Minogue Sharp, programme and business change manager at North Mersey HIS comments: “Paper based systems do not track patients during their care with the efficiency and accessibility renal specialists ideally want.  cyberREN offers a range of benefits including a quicker and more reliable flow of information, advanced custom report generating capabilities and detailed and meaningful statistical analysis of renal data.”

cyberREN will also enable renal departments across Merseyside and Cheshire to link to the national Renal Patient View system.  This will send patient data to the system, where it can then be accessed via any PC with Internet access.

Jo Minogue Sharp comments: “cyberREN allows us to actively support Merseyside Kidney Care Network, which delivers renal services cross the region.  From pre-dialysis patients to transplant follow-up modalities, the system will allow us to deliver a vital information service that will operate across a wide area - Cheshire and Merseyside - and will work with many disparate management systems.”

Mark Bostock, Director of North Mersey Health Informatics Service  comments: “North Mersey HIS is all about offering innovative IT solutions that produce greater efficiency and effectiveness for our partner organisations.

We were, and still are, one of the first organisations to use the Canadian developed system in the UK because it offered significantly improved patient care and benefits that renal specialists could value.”

North Mersey HIS is also running a home haemodialysis pilot, designed to monitor patients who currently receive dialyse at home, with a view to implementation next year.
